No matter how successful a business is currently, failure to continuously scan the environment to appreciate changes will eventually lead to the business failing. In order to take input, a business should have a functional sensory system, one which can observe and stay in touch with the realities on the ground. This information can then be used to come up with solutions which directly meet the needs on the ground.
Now, it does not help for a business to get accurate and timely information about its environment and yet fail to process it in a way which actually helps the business and its clients. The ability to appropriately and correctly process the information is influenced by a number of factors which include constraints, willpower and capacity. The only way to know what will be derived from implementing a change in the business is by measuring some key indicators before and after the change and presenting them in a way which shows clearly how the business has progressed and how this will positively impact its clients' world.
